From hilarious wine reviews to experimental sci-fi fiction, Chris Barlow knows a thing or two about transforming a shoe-string budget into audio gold. But don’t take my word for it, take his!

Chris Tries To Review Wine

It’s America’s favorite 5-star podcast that sometimes successfully reviews wine, but always invites listeners (and guests!) to have a good time.

Chris Tries to Review Wine has been performed and recorded at venues all across New York City, from the People’s Improv Theater to Dixon Place to a tiny wardrobe in Chris’s bedroom that he may never get to leave again (that’s the current season!).

Join world-renowned amateur internet wine expert Chris Barlow in each episode as he tries to review a new (reasonably-priced!) wine, interviews guests, and more. Along the way you’ll learn the secrets of pretending like you know how to talk about wine when in reality no one, absolutely no one, knows how to talk about it.

So don’t worry! You don’t need to know the difference between a Petite Sirah and Pinot Noir, because honestly the answer is probably just “they’re different grapes” or something. You just need to like tasting wine! Or drinking it! Or just getting drunk. Honestly, the choice is yours.

Or don’t drink any wine at all and let Chris do the heavy lifting for you. With tasting notes ranging from “week-old Vitamin Water” and “sweet nectar of life” we taste it so you don’t have to here on CHRIS TRIES TO REVIEW WINE.

Everyday Affirmations

This experimental short-form podcast was designed as a limited series that you can use to give yourself a little pick-me-up with relatable affirmations like:

  • “I will close that browser tab.”
  • “I am not going to hit snooze.”
  • “I will not google my symptoms.”
  • and, of course, “I will floss.”

You can listen to all the episodes and find links to download and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and more by visiting the Everyday Affirmations project page at Anchor.fm.

Places Like This: Wiretaps from Tomorrow

Back in a simpler time (called 2014) the NSA accidentally wiretapped a wormhole in the Gowanus canal, uncovering a treasure trove of intercepted recordings from 50 years in the future (that’s 2064, if you’re keeping track).

On each episode of Places Like This: Wiretaps from Tomorrow you peek into the lives of the residents of a waterlogged New York City through short snippets of audio diaries, voice messages, and news reports. Will Opal (Haley Rawson) find her footing in a strange new job? Will Fitz Walker (Hunter Canning) find a greater truth in the cloud? And does National Public Audio news anchor Jebidiah Hogan (Chris Barlow) ever take a break?

Running as a completed miniseries, Places Like This is available to download on Apple Podcasts. The story (perhaps) concluded in the live stage show Condolences from the Future! which premiered at Ars Nova in New York City. You can see photos from that production here.
